Applications are invited for the position of Professor in Applied Economics (Regional Economic Development) at the South Wales Business School, to support us in our ambitions in conjunctions with the USW Exchange to make a genuine contribution to the South Wales Region. Candidates will demonstrate a track record of internationally recognised publications in the areas of Applied Economics or related areas. We would particularly welcome applications in the areas of applied economics, regional economic development, organisational productivity and more broadly, economic geography. We are seeking an ambitious academic to support the aspirations of The South Wales Business School in terms of developing a Research Strategy for the School, supporting and mentoring our existing staff in achieving their research aspirations and improving the School’s research capacity. Furthermore, as a practice-led institution we would be particularly interested in applications from those with significant track records in consultancy and/or policy-focused commissioned work. The person appointed will provide research leadership to build a sustainable international reputation for our research in this area and ensure it underpins successful curriculum and business development. The person will be required to teach our students particularly at postgraduate level at home and abroad. Moreover, they will help maintain the high academic standards set within the Faculty (and by the relevant professional statutory bodies) in terms of research supervision and be able to generate external funding through successful research grant applications and consultancy.

The successful candidate will be joining a highly dynamic team that reflects 21st Century teaching and learning practice which is based upon considerable academic and commercial experience. A key emphasis of the subject area is therefore the practical application of academic thinking, both in our research and our curriculum development activities.
