SESS Research Fellow / Engineer (Thermal Management)

The University of South Wales is seeking an experienced Research Fellow (Thermal Management) for our Smart Energy Storage Solutions (SESS) project. The project funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). SESS is a collaborative research and development operation, within the world-class Centre for Automotive Power Systems Engineering at the University of South Wales. Large, medium and small enterprises within West Wales and the Valleys, will be able to access leading academic knowledge and research facilities. SESS will be demand-led by companies, researching and piloting new innovative technologies, products and processes, specifically in electrical energy storage to aid the wider adoption of micro-generation and renewable energy sources as well as electric and hybrid-electric vehicles for land, sea or air transport.
The Research Fellows will undertake and where appropriate lead research activities within SESS sub-projects, including the development of personal, group or collaborative SESS project objectives and outputs. We are seeking to appoint four Fellows to work in different areas:
Stationary applications, which include AC power for renewables and / or grid stabilisation.
High- voltage electrical systems and their construction into battery packs.
Software control of battery packs, safety systems and their state of charge and health monitoring.
The construction of battery packs and their thermal management and interfaces.
This position is based at Treforest Campus of the University of South Wales.
The terms and conditions of the post (including grade and salary) will be those of the University of South Wales.
